Daily Prattle: A crafty war approaches

Hey there fellow readers, once again I’m back on the wagon and intend to keep it frequent. I am going to continue posting short stories as often as I can but in the mean time I am also going to resume my daily prattle where I talk about the most interesting entertainment news of the past days. Over the weekend I ventured into the cinema to see the latest James Bond movie titled Spectre, I would be uploading my review of the movie pretty soon. Today I would be talking about two new movie trailers, one that might hopefully alter the perception of video game movies and the other a sequel to a presidential action packed film( nope not the actual presidential elections) and I will also be talking about set photos from a certain mystical Marvel movie. Let’s get it on.

  • WORLD OF HOPECRAFT

Over the weekend, the first feature length trailer for the highly anticipated fantasy video game based movie Warcraft was released. I remember hearing news of the trailer’s release a full week before which prompted my friends and I to anticipate the eventual reveal of the trailer and I must say, we blew our collective sphincters due to excitement as I loved the trailer. To be honest, I never played the World of Warcraft games extensively but only for a short while, nevertheless I had been always invested in its lore. The trailer gave me a Lord of the Rings meets Planet of the Apes vibe which is not a bad vibe at all. I know very little of the source material and judging merely from this gorgeous trailer, I get a glimmer of hope that video game movies can finally have a place at the cinematic stage. Just like how X-Men and Spiderman pioneered the age of great comic book movies, I do have faith that Warcraft is the video game movie that would open the way to an influx of good video game movies. Assassins Creed is another video game movie slated to be released next year, and with the good publicity behind these movies combined with a good direction, the success of the movies can be the portal to other planned and cancelled video game movie projects like Bioshock, Uncharted, Infamous etc. Overall I loved the first trailer even though trailers can be sometimes misleading(ahem…….suckerpunch…..), I look forward to seeing Warcraft in the theater next year and hopefully it can break the curse of bad video game movie adaptations. Let me know what you guys think of the trailer which I will post below and any hardcore fans should feel free to fill me in on the lore of the game and their opinions. Which video game would you like to see on the big screen?

  • ANOTHER ONE HAS FALLEN

While on the topics of trailers, another particular movie preview that dropped over the weekend was the sequel to the 2013 action thriller Olympus Has Fallen which has been aptly titled London Has Fallen. Personally I was moderately surprised at the first movie as I wasn’t expecting that much from it, although ultimately I must agree that I was entertained by the action scenes and performances even though it had a cliche story. With that been said I do not care too much for the upcoming sequel as I see it as unnecessary. Guaranteed a sequel does make sense financially as the movie was able to make back double of its original 70 million dollar budget. The first movie was directed by Antoine Fuqua(Training Day, Southpaw) which was one of the main reasons I saw the movie as Fuqua is known for directing brilliant action movies. He doesn’t return to direct the sequel, which initially worried me but seeing the new director Babak Nafaji(I know he is relatively unknown to me as well) has worked on the Banshee TV series(amazing action show by the way) gives me some hope that at least the action scenes will be well shot. Overall I did mildly enjoy the trailer and I am definitely going to check it out(and look forward to the next potential sequel “Kremlin Has Fallen”). The link to the trailer is below, I must say the makers of the trailer missed a chance to play the London bridge is falling down theme song. What did you think of the trailer? Are you excited for this movie? Let me know what you think.

  • A STRANGE PRODUCTION

Pictures were released last week entailing photos of Benedict Cumberbatch on set in Nepal currently shooting the upcoming Marvel movie Dr Strange. The movie follows the story of Stephen Strange(Benedict) a successful neurosurgeon who gets involved in a car accident that ruins his career, he then sets out on a journey of healing where he encounters the Ancient One(Tilda Swinton). The movie is been directed by Scott Derrickson known for his sinister work in Sinister(ok pun totally intended). When I heard of the plans to produce this movie, it gladdened me as it would mean that the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be moving into the realm of magic, hereby further expanding the MCU  as a whole much like what Guardians of the Galaxy did with the cosmic universe. I’m not very familiar with the source material, I have read some Dr Strange comics in the past and I must say that the character has some of the most bizarre story lines and concepts which will be exciting to see on the big screen. Other actors that would appear in the movie are Tilda Swinton(she is a chameleon in most of her performances), Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams, with their combined acting prowess I am assured of a phenomenal performance all around. It would be very interesting to see how the studio handles the concept of magic. Overall I am very excited to see the end result next year in theaters. What do you think of this strange news(couldn’t resist that one). Are you excited for this upcoming movie. Which other surreal Marvel property would you like to see the MCU tackle next?

“Oh Watson, how much did I drink last night?”

What do you think of everything, sound off in the comment section and feel free to air your opinions. That’s all for now. Till next time. Szia.

Daily Prattle: Han Solo Down

Ahh it has been a long time once again since my last post, but I’m back from my hiatus to post more movie news. I had been working on a screenplay for a friend of mine, who is directing a short film. I’m also still writing a couple of short stories as well that I would upload shortly. Today I would like to talk about the Han Decker Indiana Solo’s near death experience, the buzz of a possible new Toy Story movie, and the unsheathing of a new Wolverine movie in the works.

  • MILLENNIUM FALCON DOWN

Fans and family of the beloved Star Wars and Indiana Jones crooner were appalled to hear that Harrison Ford had been involved in a plane crash a couple of days ago and was reported to be in a critical condition. The 72 year old actor had been flying solo(no pun intended) when his plane encountered some issues and he had to make an emergency landing at a golf course. He survived the crash but was injured and wheeled away by paramedics. His son tweeted a post to confirm that Ford was in no critical condition. I was initially shocked to hear of the news and worried especially after already losing the Vulcan icon, Leonard Nimoy recently, I wish him a full recovery. If this had gone badly, that would not have boded well for the upcoming Indiana Jones movie and the future Star Wars movies.

  • THROUGH INFINITY AND BEYOND AND MORE

In a recent interview, John Lasseter, one of the heads at Disney’s animation department revealed that there are plans in the works for a new Toy Story movie. The news makes me a bit nervous cause I personally felt that the Toy Story trilogy wrapped up pretty perfectly. But the comments that Lasseter made quelled my cynicism, as they plan on focusing on a different group of toys which makes sense to me, as there is no point in dragging on the story between Andy, Woody and Buzz. It is also stated to be a romantic story that would focus on the interaction between the toys and the children. Although I wouldn’t mind a spinoff of Andy in his 420 college days whereBuzz could be his bong pipe and Woody could be his girlfriend’s favorite toy.

  • THE THIRD CLAW RISES

Director James Mangold has confirmed that the next Wolverine movie would start shooting in 2017 and the movie would focus on Logan played by Hugh Jackman and Professor Xavier played by Patrick Stewart as they go on an adventure together(although I am pretty sure it is not going to be a buddy roadtrip comedy). This would make it Hugh Jackman’s 11th appearance as the Wolverine, and I must say that the older he gets, the more he embraces the role of the Wolverine. But of course there is a limit to how many times he would be able to reprise the role, but till then I say as many Wolverine movies as possible. He is just an amazing character that can be used multiple to benefit any story. I look forward to the movie. Let me know which one of this news catches your attention the most. I would soon post my next short story. Till next time. Szia.

Charlie Hebdo:- An Attack on freedom of speech

A few days ago, a satirical publishing company located in Paris, France was attacked by two masked gunmen wielding assault rifles, they fired at the building which resulted in the death of 12 people, with many more wounded. I just felt saddened by the news cause l have a friend living in Paris who was greatly affected by the event, and I felt I would talk about it. The perpetrators have been confirmed to have been members of the Al Queda terrorist group. There was a video depicting some of the events, including the shootout and a recording of one of the men yelling “Allahu Akbar” which translates to God is great. Charlie Hebdo had been known for its extreme parodying and strong satires of topics on war and religion. Nevertheless this doesn’t give a bunch of Muslim terrorists the rights to shoot and kill anyone simply based on this.

image

The two gunmen are part of the reason people doubt and loathe religion as a whole, cause their actions make them look like ultra-nationalist looking to enforce their beliefs on others irregardless of what others might believe in. Their actions have done nothing else but sparked various protests and civil unrest. Charlie Hebdo might be a satirical newspaper but it’s not the only one in the world, so by logic are the gunmen going to attack every single satirical news outlet? This is a bizarre form of terrorism and I hope the culprits are apprehended soon and brought to justice. I have a couple of Muslim friends and they also feel disgusted by this actions as it just worsens relations and views that people generally have towards Islam. One shouldn’t be attacked for their rights. This is one of the saddest things to ever occur in this new year. My condolences go to the families of the victims. Please let me know what you think about this.

Daily Prattle: Suicide Squad casting news

Oh boy it’s been a while since I posted one of my regular prattles, but this had to be done, despite my tight exam schedule. A hot set of casting news was revealed recently and some of them were confirmed rumors that had been going on for a while. The lead cast of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie has been announced and it’s one hell of a roster. Some of the people that have been cast have already been long rumored, but still it was exciting to finally get some solid news. I’m gonna be talking about each cast member and their respective character. I’m gonna start from the ones I really don’t know about to the ones I’m more familiar with. Let’s get it on.

For those unfamiliar with who the Suicide Squad are, they are basically an expendable crew of criminals recruited by the government to go on life threatening missions with promise of a reduced life sentence. They usually have tracker bombs installed in their necks in case they go AWOL, so they can be easily discarded. Over the years and the course of the comic history, the team has changed and many of the members have been replaced. But their mission always remains the same. Although they have appeared in TV in shows like Arrow and the Flash, those iterations are not going to be canon with the DC cinematic universe. David Ayer has been announced as the director of the movie, and with his excellent direction of Fury in establishing a perfect chemistry amongst the lead actors, I am totally pumped to see what he is gonna do. Here are the list of the cast and characters for the upcoming movie.

CARA DELEVINGNE AS THE ENCHANTRESS
This is one actress that I’m not particularly familiar with, and the character she plays isn’t quite popular with me. I know the character had a big story arch in the Justice League Dark comic series(another comic book property likely to get a big screen adaptation, possibly directed by the widely imaginative Guillermo del Toro #sweet). I also happen to know that the character possesses mystical powers, which infers to me that the upcoming DC movies are most probably gonna deal with the supernatural. I will read more comics pertaining to the Enchantress to know more about her and I would check out the filmography of Cara Delevingne(I hope I’m spelling her name right). Either way I can’t wait to see her performance.

image
"I command you to be enchanted"

TOM HARDY AS RICK FLAG
This is a character that has led the Suicide Squad on multiple occasions, think of him as a Nick Fury for miscreants. It seems he would also be leading the team in the movie. I hope to see him and Deadshot hassle each other over the leadership role. He is going to be played by none other than Tom Hardy, more known for his role as another DC character, Bane from the Dark Knight Rises. Tom Hardy is by far a talented actor and I can totally see him playing a rugged commander of a rag tag group. Tom Hardy is a brilliant addition to the cast.

image
"Time to break the ba.....i mean lead a team"

JAI COURTNEY AS CAPTAIN BOOMERANG
The character of Captain Boomerang was recently portrayed on the TV screen in the latest episode of Arrow, he was played by Nick E. Tarabay(Spartacus). Jai Courtney has been confirmed to take on the mantle(also from Spartacus). Courtney has been known to play baddies in the past before in movies like I, Frankenstein, Jack Reacher and Divergent. I’m convinced that he can pull off this character, granted he has appeared in a couple of lackluster movies, but I’ve always found his presence foreboding. As for the character, he can be quite laughable from the comics,as he is a character that utilizes boomerangs as his primary weapon, although the Arrow TV show was able to take him more serious. I hope they stick with his Australian origins and keep his accent.

"Every news that goes around, comes around"

WILL SMITH AS THE JOKER
This was a casting news that really got me excited, Will Smith is one of the most charismatic characters working today and Deadshot is a very interesting character as well, he is a trained mercenary who takes his missions as a suicidal playground. He once didn’t care if he lived or died during the mission until he discovered he had a daughter which gave him a reason to live. At first I was worried about Will playing this character, seeing that he usually plays the good guy, but then I realized our nonchalant and reckless his character was from Hancock. All that coupled with his unparalleled charisma, would be a sure pass for the role of Deadshot. Another person I would have considered for this role would have been Omari Hardwick from Power. He plays an anti-hero on that show that could relate to the character of Deadshot.

The Fresh Prince of Crosshairs

MARGOT ROBBIE AS HARLEY QUINN
Finally an on screen appearance of the crazy clown obsessed former psychiatric doctor. I’ve been waiting a long time for her on screen debut. Margot Robbie had been rumored to play her for a while now and finally it had been confirmed. Now with that been said, I was a fan of her work in the critically acclaimed Wolf of Wall Street, so there is no doubt that she could act……….well crazy. The only issue is the fact that that is her one and only major on screen performance. She is due to appear alongside her co star Will Smith in an upcoming movie titled Focus. I do hope her performance there can confirm to me that she can handle the task of playing a character as complicated as Harley Quinn. I would have been interested in seeing Mila Kunis play this role as well.

image
"I'm not obsessive, I just like to hold on to things without letting go"

JARED LETO AS THE JOKER
Oh this had to be the biggest news, as everyone was speculating on who could play the Clown Prince of Crime. I do think Jared Leto is a great actor(he does have his Oscar to prove it). But this is a tough act to follow, aside from the in-depth complexity of the character, he also has really big shoes to fill, as Heath Ledger owned the character in his own way and the image of that Joker is burned into the audience’s mind. Nevertheless I believe Jared Leto just has to develop the character in his own way while still paying homage to the Joker’s roots. My first choice when I heard that they were recasting the Joker was Robert Knepper(Prison Break), he justs knows how to play the crazy ones.

image
Guess the crazy one

AMANDA WALLER NOT YET CONFIRMED
With all this characters cast, there leaves one more, Amanda Waller, who is usually the director in charge of the team. She is tough as nails and has a strict policy and would not hesitate in ‘discarding’ a Suicide Squad member during a jeopardizing moment. Currently I’ve heard that there are three actresses on the list namely Whoopi Goldberg, Viola Davis and Oprah Winfrey, yes the actual Oprah. This really sounds interesting, and it would be quite something to see Oprah appear in a comic book movie. My first choice would be Viola Davis though, just because of her acting history of playing tough women. She can also play a no nonsense head of an organization. Who do you think should be cast as Amanda Waller? And which of the other casting choices do you not necessarily agree with? Let me know in the comment section below. I really look forward to this movie and hope it delivers on an epic scale. For people not really still familiar with the Suicide Squad, I strongly recommend Batman: Assault on Arkham, it’s an animated movie that, contrary to the title, focuses on the Suicide Squad and their relationship with one another. Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more entertaining news. Till next time. Szia.

Daily Prattle: Ultronification

Finally done with my plethora of tests that befell me this week, I got home last night after a long day, caught up with my tv shows that I had missed during the course of the week, ate some dinner, played a little Sleeping Dogs and then proceeded to do some sleeping of my own. Then suddenly I get a message from a friend commanding me to go to YouTube immediately, his frantic message made me wonder what could be going on. I swiftly open YouTube and lo and behold on the homepage was the new Marvel trailer for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. Words cannot explain my nerdgasm enough, it became my instant addiction, I had to watch the trailer over 10 times so has to quell my brain cells from exploding due to overexcitement. I’m going to use this post to talk about the trailer, keep your hats on, and don’t get too blown away by the awesomeness.

The trailer opens with a voiceover narrative by Ultron, who is dubiously played by James Spader, I knew his voice was going to be badass, but not this chilly and intimidating. Then a couple of scenes with utter destruction follow possibly at the hands of Ultron. Then we are shown the Avengers at their mansion, including other characters in the cinematic universe like War Machine who look frighteningly as a malfunctioning robot controlled by Ultron walks in talking about how the Avengers are all tangled in strings. There are then glimpses of the various Avengers in different scenarios looking grim and hopeless. There was a particular scene with Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner all looking crestfallen in the jet. This trailer just corroborates Marvel’s statement about this movie been significantly darker than the first one. Cue the awesome Pinocchio soundtrack that plays in the background. Then various scenes follow with the reveal of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch standing behind Ultron. According to the comics the sibling superheroes were once bad but later converted to the good side. I am pretty sure that is going to happen as well in this movie, as we see a scene of Quicksilver battling an Iron Legion(Ultron’s robotic henchmen). And it would also be nice to see how Marvel handles their own version of Quicksilver, cause X-Men: Days of Future Past really did him justice with the awesome kitchen scene. Scarlet Witch’s costume is pretty logical as her comic book costume could have felt incredibly out of place. We then see Tony Stark stating that this is the end, as it leads me to believe the originally speculated theory that he inadvertently created Ultron.

image

Next my favorite scene appears, no words can express my sheer excitement when I saw the Hulkbuster armor, the metallic behemoth was not a child’s play. From the trailer we can see that Iron Man and Hulk are definitely going to duke it out. But many people have speculated that it could have been Ultron in the suit, but I doubt it. A surprise shot of Andy Serkis appears, which shocked me of course, but my guess is that he would be playing Ulysses Klaw, the primary antagonist to the African superhero named…….wait for it….Black Panther. If I’m right then that means that finally a Black Panther movie could be on its way, even though Marvel had already confirmed that Black Panther was in their schedule. Another scene that touched me, was a quick shot of the Hulk and Black Widow touching hands, we would learn more when the movie drops. The appearance of Ultron is surely going to split the group again as we see Thor lift Tony Stark up, probably blaming him for the creation of Ultron. My next favorite scene was the shot of a beaten Thor and the broken shield of Captain America. That sent an ice block of chills down my spine. We all know that Captain America’s shield is made from vibranium, which kinda makes it nearly indestructible, so for the shield to be broken, that could mean that another force of vibranium proportions caused it which could mean that Ultron is made from the same material. Another direct connection to Wakanda, the homeland of Black Panther. The trailer ends with Ultron’s face stating that there are no strings on him, and with the Pinocchio soundtrack playing in the background, it just gave me a metaphorical picture of Tony Stark as Gepetto and Ultron as Pinocchio free from his master’s grip. The final look of Ultron also looked very humanoid, which leads me to believe that he would upgrade his appearance periodically throughout the movie. All in all, this trailer served me well and did not disappoint in any way. Some people were worried about the grim tone of the trailer, making people to wonder if the movie would be all dark and gloomy, but I’m pretty sure that a second trailer will clear that up, as Joss Whedon, who directed the first movie is known to always blend comedy and action brilliantly. This trailer was also supposed to be released next week with the next episode of Agents of Shield but it had unfortunately leaked, I do like the way Marvel handled it, by then releasing the actual trailer instead of trying to pull it from the web and disclaiming it. That tactic did not work well for Star Trek: Into Darkness and their secret about Khan. Marvel also posted a hilarious tweet blaming Hydra for the leak. What did you think about the trailer? And what scenes or scenarios stood out to you? I personally can’t wait for May 2015 to come. Let me know in the comment section and please don’t forget to like and subscribe for more entertaining news. Till next time. Szia.

Daily Prattle: A Ferris Bueller Day On

There is a popular theory that algebra was created by the devil, I mean come to think of it, which regular human would invent a complex means of calculations that includes more alphabets than numbers. These among other cringeworthy courses has been my ordeal throughout this just concluded week, and now I have to prepare for three mid term tests next week. Dear Scotty, if there was any time to beam me up, it would be now. I couldn’t even go up the Citadel today cause I had a class, YES. I HAD A F$!KING LAB CLASS. ON A DAMN SATURDAY. Hence the punny title of this post. In honesty, it was due to the lack of the lab next week due to an upcoming holiday, and the lecturer was actually really nice and amazing. So I’m gonna be doing my hike tomorrow.

image

As for last night, that was a blast, the Brazilians in my apartment were having a fun drinking game that got virtually everyone intoxicated, I was worried for a friend of mine who was so gone, I feared that the alcohol had permanently replaced his red blood cells. We played some really awesome card games, one of which involved a daring style challenge that had me and two other guys going to the convenient store in cold, dark night without our pants and throughout no one got hurt, at least badly. I just had to share my most recent experience in the past days, my upload speed is gonna decrease overtime as I am going to be buried in my books in order to prepare for more tests. So I’m gonna keep this brief, but I’m gonna still post whenever I get the chance. I’ve also started watching the fourth season of The Legend of Korra, and it’s been entertaining so far, the three year gap between this season and the previous one really spices things up as to what must have occurred. That’s all for now, till next time. Szia.

Daily Prattle: The Starving Dead

An old saying states that a hungry man is an angry man, but the saying forgot to add the extent a hungry man would go to quell his famished state. It’s something I call the Tantalus Syndrome, a case when a person is starving beyond reason and then they resort to eat almost any edibles that they see around. I felt victim to the syndrome recently when I went for a 4 hour laboratory class without ingesting any form of food prior to the class. The chemical compounds were beginning to look sumptuous as I tried to focus in the lab class. Oh and there was also Pordly heckling me as usual, I was tempted to claw off his oil puffed cheeks and devour them like a walker from The Walking Dead. Speaking of The Walking Dead, how about I digress and talk about that awesome season 5 premiere.

"Jump whoever comes in, even if it's the mailman"

The episode started off with a bang, literally. I will try as much to avoid giving away too much spoilers, but I cannot guarantee a lack of mild spoilers, so

             xxxSPOILERALERTxxx
Rick and his crew are rounded up and set to be slaughtered, but then a form of deux ex machina saves them and they exact some sweet vengeance upon the cannibalistic inhabitants of Terminus. I’m personally glad that the season did not waste time establishing the fact that Terminus was pretty much Woodbury 2.0, but worse. There was no need to waste half of the season in Terminus, which I loved. Also a new badass has evolved in the form of Carol, a former stay at home mom and shy companion, basically triggered the fall of Terminus. It was cool to see all the old characters again, and one of my favorite additions, the ginger mustached beefy soldier Abraham Ford. The episode was mostly spot on in my opinion, the walker attack on Terminus followed by the ensuing battle was done amazingly. My only gripe with the episode was the little to lack of character development for the cannibalistic inhabitants of Terminus, although a little flash back was shown of how they were been treated awfully, it wasn’t enough to convince me that that made them what they were now, hopefully future episodes will elaborate more on that. My favorite scene overall was seeing the union between Rick and Judith, his little baby that he thought had died and between Daryl(all hail) and Carol. Tyrese has also grown on me as well, as he was pushed to break his non violence oath when that one Terminus dude continually provokes him, to the extent of threatening sweet little Judith. Overall it was a solid season premiere and episode, and it was great to see the regulars again, Daryl(all hail) and Michonne with her new Darth Maul-esque wooden katana especially. The episode ends with a nice little cameo, I’m not gonna reveal who, but his name rhymes with Jordan.
I can’t wait for more episodes, and before the next episode, I will also post impressions of other tv shows that I’ve been watching recently, Gotham has been impressive so far, The Flash is going strong, I’m still not totally sold on Scorpion, but in the comedy realm I will recommend Blackish. It’s time to hit the hay, please don’t forget to like and subscribe for more entertaining news. Till next time. Szia.
