A Tome of Poems: Kismet

Freedom, a feeling a caged bird craves

To abscond its plight, and engage in flight

Liberation, a desire wanted by a felon that prays

To see the light, and live without fright.
We all feel imprisoned on way or another

It could be in our mind, or in the things we find

We all search for escape from matters that bother

To kick back and unwind, and leave worries behind.
For are we free to our will or destined by kismet

To love or hate, to proceed or wait

Whatever the truth we must be ready and set

Whether it be by fate, or we get to dictate.

Godfall Part 5

It’s been a while since we embarked on the journey of Jonas Irapada, a desperate and determined man, hell bent on bringing his mother back from the dead by any means necessary.

”I am Jonas Irapada, a lowly farmer”, Jonas said amidst fright, as his voice quivered in fear ”I have summoned you for the purpose of your aid”.

”And what purpose art thou summoned me for?”, Akana retorted.

”I wish for you, O great one, to please bring my mother back to the land of the living”

”Hahaha”, Akana laughed, his laughter echoing throughout the entire room ” A resurrection? What doth thou possess to trade in for this gesture?”.

”I know it is has barely been done before, but I offer you something great in return” Jonas paused briefly, turning to face Jenna ”My life”.

”Nooooo! You can’t do this brother” Jenna protested ”It’s not worth it, trading your life for mother’s”

”Your sibling speaks true, for I canst accept the life of the summoner, such action renders the transaction null”

”Ok, alright I can offer something else”, Jonas said.

”IT IS DONE!!!”, Akana bellowed.

Jonas appeared surprised, Akana had accepted to bring his mother back to life without stating his price. He was wondering what it meant when ‘SZINHK’. A bright light washed over the room, illuminating every corner of the room and eliminating every shadow or shade. The light source emanated from the top of Jonas’ mother’s corpse. A hole appeared out of the thin air as a pathway manifested with a bright and shining figure descending down the pathway. The figure was clothed in a celestial robe radiating with a golden glow. The figure had a female face with long blonde and glowing hair. She reached the edge of the glowing portal and looked towards Jonas and Jenna. She opened her mouth and spoke.

”My beautiful children, it’s so lovely to see you again”

Her voice sounded like a clash of cymbals. Jonas stared bewildered, hot tears streamed from the corner of his eyes. He was looking at his mother, the same person he had lost a couple of hours ago. He opened his mouth to speak but no words were found, Jenna, equally amazed noticed her brother’s shock and decided to speak instead.

”It’s so great to see you again mother, we thought we had lost you”

Jonas finally found his wit and got up from his crouching position, he stretched out his hand to touch his glowing mother.

”Enough! Our deal hath been concluded, I have retrieved your mother from the afterlife”, Akana interrupted ”It’s time for thou to honor thy end of the bargain”

”Yes I know, but you said you couldn’t take my soul”

”I know, but there exists another soul in this immediate vicinity”, Akana replied with a sly grin.

Jonas stood perplexed at first, then came to the sudden realization of the situation.

”Hahaha, thou hast offered thy soul, but alas I canst take thy soul, hence I have to make due with the next available soul”

“That was not the deal, I will offer something else, anything else, just leave her alone”, Jonas pleaded, his heart racing with panic and fear.

”Negative, the deal hast been done, well cast thine eyes upon thy mother and bid her farewell”

”What do you mean?”

Jonas’mother faded away and the glowing portal closed up, leaving his mother’s lifeless body in its wake.

“NOOO!!!”, Jonas screamed ”Bring her back!!!”

”Dost thou really think that a demonite could resurrect an individual? Anyway it was a pleasure engaging in business with you, I shall take my leave with my prize”

With that said, black smoke emitted around Jenna and grew thicker exponentially, it gradually enveloped Jenna as she began to fade away from reality.

”Brother, help!”, she screamed.

”I wont let you go sis, hold tight”

Jonas grabbed unto her hands but slowly began loosing his grip as he felt her body become intangible, she was becoming transparent.

”Leave her Akana, I beg you, take me instead”

”My apologies young one, that canst be done”

”Leave her alone or I will kill you!!!”, Jonas screeched with tears welling up in his eyes, He reached for any object lying around, he picked up an iron rod and hurled it at Akana, but before the rod could make contact, it simply dissolved into nothingness.

“You dare strike a demonite, you insolent vile creature”, Akana bellowed, then he waved his hand and threw Jonas across the room without even touching him. Jonas hurtled across the room before slamming into the wall.

”I bid thee farewell”, Akana said as he disappeared, shortly after Jenna became entirely see through and vanished as well.

”Jenna I will bring you back, I swear it”, Jonas called after his sister but she was gone ”This is all my fault, the demonite, it tricked me”

The conjurer who had been silent throughout the entire ordeal, sauntered over to Jonas and helped him off the floor.

”I’m truly sorry for your loss son, I told you it was risky”

Jonas turned to the conjurer and grabbed him by the collar, demanding that he knew about all this. The conjurer objected, insisting that he had no idea that things were going to be this bad.

”I have to get Jenna back here”, Jonas muttered, his shoulders slumped and his lips quivering in lachrymose.

”Look kid, that’s impossible”, the conjurer stated ”The only way one can venture into Delious safely is by using power bestowed by the gods or absorbing the soul of a god which I doubt is even possible now”

Jonas looked around the room, his heart heavy with guilt and pain as he realized that he had lost not one but two people that cared about him in a single day. Jonas sat down sluggishly, his arms spread out in fatalism as he tried to think of any solution to his current predicament.

A Tome of Poems: Once Upon A Thyme

Once upon a time as I pondered on life’s teaching

I stumbled upon the vast naivete I had

Once upon a thyme as I wandered around the kitchen

I happen upon a variety of spice that made me glad.

There is a time for every season under the sun

A time to be born, a time to learn and a time to die

There is a thyme for every seasoning inside the pan

Some thyme to boil, some thyme to cook and some thyme to fry.

A stitch in time saves nine

So make haste before the sun is gone

A swiff of thyme creates brine

Hope you’ve enjoyed the poetic jargon

Pandora’s Tower: Forces of Choices

Am I destined to write this article or was this an individual decision that I made through my own sheer will. Hello fellow earthlings of Gaia, today is another day for philosophical ramblings, as I will be talking about the concepts of free will and destiny. These two concepts are extremely controversial topics ever since the dawn of time. Many believe we do possess a form of free will that enables us to carry out activities that we determine in our daily lives, while on the other side of the argument, destiny is believed to be the reason we all exist and do whatever we do, it dictates that our lives have been ordained to carry out our thoughts and actions already. Free will in simpler terms is the notion that we have the conscious ability to manipulate our future while destiny is a sum total of things that would happen to a person in his or her entire life. Personally I am on the fence in regards to this argument as I believe there is a grey area that links both concepts. I shall digress a little and talk about two other philosophical concepts that have been influenced by the original concepts mentioned prior and that is determinism and compatibilism. The former is of the notion that whatever is taking place right now is directly caused by prior events possibly dating back to the Big Bang while the former states that free will and determinism are compatible ideas. I won’t focus on these other two concepts for this post but will refer to them, for more information on them check out the arguments between Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett. The reason I bring these other two concepts up is because of their similarities to the original concepts. Now back to the original argument, do we possess free will or are we destined to our fates.

Firstly its easy to spout that we all possess free will defiantly, that whenever you feel like say, ordering pizza and you change your mind to order Chinese takeout that one has exhibited free will, but then an argument can be made, albeit questionable, that the person was always destined to order the Chinese takeout. The idea of free will is refreshing to us because it makes us feel in control of the situations around us and the very fact that we are self aware enough to think of the idea of free will seems to strengthen the notion. I personally am more of a fan of the idea of free will over destiny and here’s why. The idea of destiny has been bastardized and exploited, for example if a person breaks a valuable glassware, they could easily say ”Oops I guess I was destined to do that”. Now of course I’m not saying that acquits the troublemaker, but that frame of thought could lead to nihilism and apathy, cause I have witnessed people who happened to find themselves in unfortunate circumstances like failing a crucial exam and then simply chucking their failure to destiny. These thought process is very dangerous and damaging. However I understand the appeal to the idea of destiny, the fact that once you are born, your life history has been written out and determined and its up to you to embark on a existential journey to uncover what destiny lies in wait.

Moreover looking back at determinism which is like a reverse form of destiny, we can see how the idea of free will is also negated, for example if a kid is riding his bicycle, trips over and falls and it is then determined that he fell cause he rode his bike over a loose rock which tripped the spokes of his bike causing him to fall over, there we can see the causality which functions like clockwork i.e. because this was here, this happened. Furthermore it could be discovered or determined that the loose rock was placed there due to water erosion from rainfall, and the rainfall was created due to the heavy clouds which manifested due to the high evaporation in the area which is attributed to the heavy domestic activities in that vicinity, we could keep going further backwards. Yah crazy right? I know, that in a nutshell is determinism and the reason why it negates free will is because of its logical pathway, just like I described from the heavy domestic activities to the loose rock. This notion paints the world to be a huge mechanical clockwork with cogs and screws ever turning and yielding various results.

However now that I have set up the ideas behind the concepts,I would like to propose mine, it is a hypothesis a couple of friends and I usually argued on. As I had mentioned before, I believe there is a grey area that connects free will and destiny. Just like levels in video games or chapters in the title menu of a Blu-Ray dvd, I believe that once an individual is born, multiple destined paths open up with multiple different endings(unlike Mass Effect 3). It is then up to the individual to decide which path he would take, now these paths are displayed like tributaries from a large river, where some linked destines collide and separate. For example, during this individual’s course of living, lets say he is trying to decide whether to buy a car or a moped, there at the point of his decision making, I propose that both destines are simultaneously existing at this time and which ever decision he makes collapses the other destiny not chosen much similarly to the Schrodinger’s cat theory. Now this is were the ideas of destiny and free will interact, at the point the man is making the decision, he is walking the path of his destinies, but once he decides on which vehicle to buy, he has exhibited free will, albeit within the realms of his destinies. Furthermore, lets say the man picks a moped and collapses the timeline with the car, that closure is however dormant not lost, cause if the man experiences an accident in the moped, and then decides to buy a car for safety, now his destiny is intertwining with a previous timeline, but bear in mind now that as he decides to buy a car, further timelines and destinies unravel, like a timeline where he goes to buy the original car when he was initially deciding to buy either the car or moped and other timelines that now feature other potential cars he could buy for his needs. This is a wild thought experiment I developed on my own, it has no merit but just simply my own suggestion.

What do you think about this frame of thought. Are you pro-free will or do you believe in destiny or both or some other form of philosophical concept. Sound off in the comment section and don’t forget to like and subscribe for more deep topics like this. Now are you destined to read and like this article or did you do so by your own free will. Ponder on that and till next time. Szia.

A Tome of Poems: Hard Times

Tough breaks and unfortunate events

Situations worsen, circumstances we can’t prevent

Hope seems lost and the future looks bleak

Dreams are dashed and life seems to play a cruel trick.

Alas my friend, fret not and be patient

For this is only a temporary moment of torment

Remember gold is tried by fire before it is treasure

And like diamonds, great things happen under pressure.

So rejoice and bask in a blissful pasture

For no one is above the random law of nature

So no matter how hard times may be

Stay strong and a resolution shall come to thee.

A Tome of Poems: Apoplexia

A feeling of rage that causes one to see red

Hindering reasoning with apoplexy and disdain

A sum of fury that can lead to ruin and dread

Spreading like wild fire and causing pain.

Like tens of thousands of thundering typhoons

Or several scores of slithering serpents

Vexation yields nothing but gloom

So calm your heart and let thy anger be spent.

Abhor from umbrage against your fellow

Quell the tantrum coming from within

Animosity creates an unnecessary foe

Learn to forgive and control your chagrin.

Cinephyte Corner: Trailer Park

You know your day is a good day when you wake up, saunter to the bathroom in order to relieve yourself off the large coke you greedily consumed  the night before, open your laptop to see what news the cyber world as to offer and then stumble across a plethora of new trailers that just bring a smile and beads of joyful tears to your eyes. That’s exactly how I felt this morning, like a kid that had sleepwalked into a candy store the night before and woken up in a vat of assorted sweets. A couple of trailers dropped over the weekend and I thought I would talk a bit about them. First we have a second trailer for our favorite Marvel oddball crew of space faring anti heroes, a reboot of a classic film in a planned cinematic franchise featuring everyone’s favorite linear running, couch hopping action star and new trailers for two of my favorite video games, one a cinematic masterpiece, the other a nostalgic gem that was the reason I started playing video games. Let’s get into it.

I would begin today’s post by delving into Marvel’s latest trailer release, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 whose full length trailer just dropped(the first been a teaser) just dropped and its as quirky, funny and action packed as we expected. The trailer opens with the guardians battling a cream coloured Lovecraftian looking monstrosity, with voice over by Rocket, impeccably voiced by Bradley Cooper. Once again we are shown jump cuts of the various heroes, Star-Lord(Chris Pratt),Gamora(Zoe Saldana), Drax(Dave Bautista) and Baby Groot(Vin Diesel) who is probably going to steal the whole show, we also get the expected but hilarious banter between Rocket and Baby Groot. The trailer ends with the introduction of Mantis, a new character and a hilarious scene involving Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax and his infectious laughter. This trailer was brilliantly executed, providing the scope and humor without giving away anything. I shall remain hooked on a feeling of euphoria while I await its release.

Universal had previously stated its interest in crafting a cinematic monster universe that would feature most of their movie monsters in their own standalone movies. The first to be this new The Mummy reboot which is led by none other than movie superstar-Tom Cruise. The trailer itself had the typical elements from the sudden stillness, accompanied by the impending danger and then the numerous shots of chaos. This particular shows a certain twist which I won’t spoil here as I will post the video below. Overall it was a decent trailer with the expected tropes. The cast involves the aforementioned Tom Cruise, Courtney B.Vance(American Crime: The People Vs O.J. Simpson) and Sofia Boutella(Kingsman, Star Trek:Beyond) as the titular mummy, in yet another role that requires her to wear makeup or prosthetics. She is definitely contending with Zoe Saldana for the role of the sci-fi queen. Alex Kurtzman known for his works on Transformers, Star Trek and Mission Impossible directed this movie which bolsters a weight of faith in this project.

It was the year 2001, I had just gotten a brand new game console known as the PlayStation and had no idea what games to play on it until my father came with some games he said the vendor had recommended. I held out this game discs, intrigued with their contents before sliding them in to play. I still remember the first time I saw the fuzzy and clumsy marsupial known as Crash Bandicoot manifest on my tv screen and ever since then I had become a video gamer, and today as the trailer of the remastered version for the PlayStation 4 was released, I shed tears of joy as I watched this trailer, which showed throw back scenes from the original game. Never has there been a better time to be alive. Another Sony surprise was the showcase of The Last of Us Part 2. I was an immense fan of the first game, a truly cinematic masterpiece that blended action and emotion unheard of in most other games splendidly with a heart tugging soundtrack and an immersive multiplayer. The new trailer was somber, cinematic and intense as we see a more mature Ellie strumming a guitar as Joel walks over some corpses, probably caused by them. This simple trailer was well directed and shot and definable whetted my appetite for more.
