Hello my fellow viewers, as this year draws to a close, I want you all to think of your best memories of 2013 and take them over with you to 2014. I wish you all a Happy New Year, and I hope to chat more with you all next year. Oh well, I’m off to the New Year’s countdown. Szia.
Hello my fellow viewers, and a very Merry Christmas to you all, I would like to conclude my list of anticipated movies today, I already wrote down five of them in my last post. So without any other further delay, let’s get it on.
- TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION
This is a movie franchise in which I had partly given up hope on, although I do not think the last two movies were as terrible as some people might think, I do agree that there was a lost of substance since the first film. News of the fourth installment have been great so far, with a new lead actor, Mark Wahlberg who takes over from the overly hysterical Shia LaBeouf. The new movie is set to be a sequel to the third movie and not a reboot, as former rumors stated. The movie also has star studded actors like Stanley Tucci(The Lovely Bones) and Kelsey Grammer(Frasier). It has also been confirmed that the Dinobots from the cartoon series will be featured in the movie. With all this development news, I must say that the next movie has gotten me stoked a bit. Transformers: Age of Extinction unleashes on the 27th of June 2014.
Come on, who isn’t excited to see Japan’s beloved city-crushing monster on the big screen again. This is a movie that I had been personally waiting for ever since the mess of 1998(I see you Emmerich). The new trailer, though esoteric, still packed a whole bill of suspense, this is one of the most famous characters in cinematic history and cannot wait to hear his epic roar on the big screen once again. Godzilla releases on the 16th of May 2014 in North America.
- GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
Okay to be honest, I was not very familiar with this franchise until after the release of The Avengers in 2012 and the post credit scene that revealed Thanos’ face. But ever since then, I have been wrapped up in the world of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. It is such a vast and enormous world, that it could have its own live action tv show. Often referred to as the space Avengers, the team consists of Peter Quill/Star Lord, the human leader and skilled marksman, Gamora, an estranged daughter of Thanos, who turned against him and has vowed to destroy him, Groot, a size-manipulative tree creature, Drax the Destroyer, a resurrected being that was killed by Thanos and now seeks retribution, and my favorite Rocket Raccoon, an anthropomorphic raccoon that wields a massive gun and a no nonsense attitude. The cast has also been revealed which feature actors Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper respectively, with other tons of supporting actors. Guardians of the Galaxy takes over on the 1st of August 2014.
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
Another highly anticipated sequel, this is a movie that really pleased me despite my initially dislike for the main character, but with a stunning new cast and a new villain, this looks like it is going to be a very promising second act. The story follows the Captain as he still tries to adapt to the modern world, a new threat emerges that could put S.H.I.E.L.D out of business, our beloved captain must team up with the Black Widow and Falcon, as they try to stop the uprising terror, meanwhile the Captain encounters an old pal with new modifications. Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the addition of Anthony Mackie and Hollywood legend Robert Redford. Captain American: The Winter Soldier comes out on the 4th of April 2014.
Before I mention my number one, I would like to list out some runner ups that were to epic to make the final list.
- THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2
- FAST AND FURIOUS 7
- THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY
- THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN
All this movies listed above are also huge blockbusters coming out next year, and I really can’t wait for them.
- X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
This is undoubtedly my most anticipated movie of 2014, especially with the surprising success and awesomeness of the prequel, X-Men: First Class. The trailer looks mind boggling and with the return of the old and new cast this is a movie that looks to please, although my constant worry is the number of characters in this movie(*ahem* X-Men 3), I can only hope that they are all utilized appropriately. The story cuts across two time period in which the first class team of X-Men must team up with their older versions in order to change the past and preserve their future. X-Men: Days of Future Past presents itself on the 23rd of May 2014.
As we all wait in eager anticipation for next year I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
As this year draws to a close, I would like to thank all my readers, and I wish you all a very merry Christmas.
Hello out there my fellow readers, a Merry Christmas in advance, and I wish you all a festive season, as this year wraps up we should not forget the amazing movies that various studios presented us with. I will be uploading a list of my favorite movies of 2013 next week, but for today I would like to highlight my top ten movies that I would be looking forward to next year. Let’s get it on.
- EDGE OF TOMORROW
Let us begin with the unfamiliar titles first, this is a movie that I have been looking forward to ever since I heard of its synopsis. The story follows Lt. Col. William Cage(Tom Cruise) who is dropped into a horrific battlefield with a war going on between the humans and an alien race known as the Mimics, but he seems to be caught in a time loop, as every time he dies he comes back from the beginning of his deployment, this causes him to hone his skills and prepare harder after every death. To my fellow avid videogamers, this definitely sounds familiar and appeals to us, but with the release of its recent trailer, I can see this been a very promising sci-fi with various twists for everyone. Tom Cruise is also aided by Emily Blunt who plays Rita Vrataski, a Special Forces soldier. The movies releases on the 6th of June next year.
- NEED FOR SPEED
Okay I know movie adaptations of videogames have not worked out so well in the past, but I have some faith in this movie, because to begin with, unlike most other videogames, Need for Speed does not have a close narrative unlike other games like Halo or Prince of Persia, so all that this movie as to deliver are high octane car chases and a compelling story-line. It is also nice to see Aaron Paul in his first lead role in a movie after escaping the grip of meth-lord Walter White from his role as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad. The movie also features actors like Dominic Cooper(The Devil’s Double),Imogen Poots(28 Weeks Later) and Micheal Keaton(Beetlejuice). Need for Speed releases on the 13th of March next year.
- 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE
Now we are getting to familiar territory, this is one movie that I was initially hesitant about, as I felt that the original film which came out in 2007 had a satisfying conclusion, but due to the recent trailers that I have seen, I must say that my interest has been peaked a bit. The film continues the story from the prequel, as Queen Gorgo(Lena Headey) is preparing to avenge her fallen 300 soldiers, but new characters are introduced namely Themistocles(Sullivan Stapleton) and Artemisia(Eva Green) who are locked in a naval battle, the film will also reveal Xerxes’ backstory to reveal how he became known as the god king. The movie comes out on the 7th of March 2014
- 22 JUMP STREET
The original movie was a surprise hit and success, and a sequel was definitely a no brainer. With the release of its recent trailer, it seems to follow a similar plot from the first movie but this time it takes place in a college which they must infiltrate. Schmidt(Jonah Hill) and Jenko(Channing Tatum) return as the undercover cops who are trying to bust a drug ring. With returning acts from Ice Cube, Nick Offerman and Rob Riggle. The sequel looks really promising and I can’t wait for its release. 22 Jump Street is set to be released on the 13th of June 2014.
- DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
This is actually one of my most anticipated movies of 2014 because the prequel blew me away, I remember being initially worried for the first movie, as it was a reboot and we all know how most reboots turn out, but the movie surprised me, especially with the role of Andy Serkis as Caeser, the sequel is set to take place 8 years after the events of the first film in which a virus has spread around that is killing off the human population and now the apes are battling against the humans for dominance. A trailer was released recently and it showed Caeser leading a charge of simian warriors. The movie looks amazing and captivating so far. The movie introduces new characters that would be played by Gary Oldman(Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Jason Clarke(Lawless), Keri Russell(Waitress) and many more. The movie comes out on the 11th of July 2014.
These are the first five movies that I am personally anticipating for next year, stay tuned for the continuation, please do not forget to comment and subscribe for more movie related news. Till next time. Szia.
Hello my fellow viewers, I have been out of the blogging sphere for a while and I apologize for a lack of notice, I hope you are all preparing for your Christmas festivities and I wish you all a safe transition into the new year. This weekend I would be putting up a list of my most anticipated movies of 2014. So let us get into today’s news, I would be talking about a planned trilogy to a beloved superhero movie with the rumored introduction of a particular villain, a potential all villain cast movie, and a new trailer for two unlikely cops who are going undercover in college. Let’s get it on.
- APOCALYPSE WOW
It has been reported that the villain for the planned X-Men third movie that is going to succeed the upcoming Days of Futures Past is set to be none other than Apocalypse, the ancient mutant with god-like powers is set to be the main villain in the third film. Bryan Singer, the alleged director of the third film and current director of the upcoming film took to his twitter page and announced that the title of the third film will be X-Men: Apocalypse, and it is set to hit theaters on the 27th of May 2016. This was great news to my ears as Apocalypse is one of my favorite comic villains and I cannot wait to see what they have planned for him. What are your thoughts?
- THE AMAZING…ERR…VENOM?
In a recent chat with actor Andrew Garfield, he stated that he has a contract to appear in The Amazing Spiderman 3 but none to confirm his participation in the fourth installment. This led people to believe that Sony plans on creating a Sinister Six movie, which has been actually confirmed by Sony. Another confirmed movie is Venom, which will star our favorite black and white symbiote(hopefully done right this time). It was also revealed that Alex Kurtzman(Fringe) and Drew Goddard(Cabin in the Woods) are set to direct and produce this upcoming movies respectively. This is highly risky and ambitious for Sony as they could be planning on showing the movies from the villain’s point-of-view, but with a singular right to one superhero, one can see why they would take this route. What are your thoughts?
- SAME STREET, TWICE THE JUMP
A brand new red band trailer was released for the upcoming 22 Jump Street, that stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as undercover cops who infiltrated a high school in the first film but are back to infiltrate a college this time around. The trailer looked amazing and raunchy as usual. It entertains without giving away too much and still maintains its low-brow humor. I cannot wait to see what Jenko and Schmidt have in store for us all but I can bet that this will be one of my favorite comedies of next year. The trailer can be viewed below, I own no rights to the trailer. Please feel free to comment and subscribe. Till next time. Szia.
Hello my fellow viewers, first I would like to apologize for my lack of update on Wednesday, as I was indisposed, This weekend I would be putting up a roster for the upcoming movies for 2014. Today, I would like to talk about a shocking development on the casting of the Amazonian princess, a new trailer that was released for our friendly neighbourhood webcrawler and the sad demise of a great and influential African icon. Let’s get it on.
- LASSO OF SHOCK
In recent chat with Zack Snyder, the director for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, he confirmed that an actress had been cast for the role of Wonder Woman. The actress is none other than Gal Gadot, an Isreali model and actress known for her role as Gisele Harabo in the Fast and Furious franchise. This was a huge shock to me, as the only thing that I can see that correlates between her and the Wonder Woman character is the height, aside from that I am not so sure. She also looks a bit too skinny for my liking, although I am sure that she is going to be beefed up for the role. I would have initially preferred either Jaime Alexander or Gemma Arterton, but we will see if this Gal got what it takes to portray the legendary Amazonian. What are your thoughts?
- THE AMAZING TRAILER
A brand new trailer was released some days ago for the upcoming the Amazing Spiderman 2, and it was truly amazing(pun intended). It showed glimpses of the major three villians which are Electro, Rhino and Green Goblin whom are played by Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, and Dane DeHaan respectively. There were also a lot of smart easter eggs in the trailer which set up the movie for a sinister six reunion( you will understand when you see it). There are also rumors that we might see Black Cat being played by Felicity Jones, which could be a temporary love interest for the Spiderman since Mary Jane Watson scenes have been removed. I just hope that this movie doesn’t get the Spiderman 3 treatment. What do you think of the trailer?
- DEATH OF AN ICON
As of the 5th of November, it was announced that the great icon and anti-apartheid revolutionary, Nelson Mandela has passed on. The former president of South Africa who put an end to the segregation among blacks and whites and also united a nation through rugby gave up the ghost yesterday from a lung infection. He will be forever remembered in our hearts for his efforts in the progress of humanity.
Hello out there my fellow viewers, hope you all had a wonderful weekend and thanksgiving, we begin this week with our usual movie news, but yesterday i uploaded a post on video-game influences, which can be visited from this link https://hybridbooks.wordpress.com/2013/12/01/weekend-matter-video-game-influences/. Today I will pay tribute to a recently deceased actor who drove on the fast lanes of our hearts, new concept designs for an upcoming movie about battling vehicular robots, and an update on the upcoming movie of the prehistoric world of the dinosaurs.
- SPEED AND SADNESS
On the 30th of November last week, a fatal car crash occurred in Valencia, California which involved Fast and Furious star Paul Walker, the actor was in the passenger seat when the driver allegedly over sped and crashed into a tree and a pole, shortly before the vehicle burst into flames. Both Paul Walker and the driver identified as Roger Rodas were killed in the accident. Paul Walker was said to be on his way to a charity event for the Typhoon Haiyan victims. This is extremely sad news, as he was 40 years of age and had not finished shooting the scenes for the upcoming Fast and Furious 7. May his soul rest in peace, and my condolences goes to his family.
- AUTOBOTS REASSEMBLE
In recent news, new cars and concept details have been released for the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extintion, the pictures feature new Autobot and Decepticon designs and a particularly new look for the Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, which was featured on a recent issue of Empire magazine’s cover. The new movie is set to hit the theaters on the 27th of June 2014, the new movie is set to take place four years after the events of the third film. One can only hope for more story and less bayhem.
- MUST GO FASTER
Indeed we can’t wait any longer for more progressive news on the upcoming Jurassic World, which is set to take place 22 years after the original film. The project had been in development hell for quite some time now but it seems that the movie has gotten its director, Colin Trevorrow, who directed last year’s critically acclaimed Safety not Guaranteed. It has also been rumored that Bryce Dallas Howard(The Help) may be starring in the movie. With the new movie possibly taking place on a larger scale rather than a park, one can only wonder what is in store for us all. Are you excited for this movie? Please let me know in the comment section. Till next time. Szia.
Hello there fellow viewers, today’s weekend matter is going to be focused on the influence of video games and the various myths that have befallen them. I am here to debunk some myths, although there are obvious draw backs to playing video games, but what source of entertainment in this world doesn’t have its disadvantages. I am going to split this posts into points in which I would highlight the major pros of playing video games.
- VIOLENT TENDENCIES
The first and obvious draw back on video games is the allegations made by various people, as to how violent they are, ever since the release of video games such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, that depict violence on a more realistic scale, lawyers and paralegals have been quick to blame them for the increase in crimes around the world. This is just an avenue for unsolved murders and other atrocities to be answered. For example, during the Cold War, Russians were blamed for everything, just like the Arabs were also blamed for everything following the events of 9/11, and just like how North Koreans are currently depicted in various movies and TV shows as megalomaniacs out to take over the USA. To be honest, there have been some games that are truly gratuitous and crude, like Ethnic Cleansing, which was a game that featured a Caucasian character killing people of different races, but that is what the ESRB(Entertainment Software Rating Board) is there for. They rate video games according to the sensitivity of its content from eC(early Childhood) which is good for kids from ages 3 to 6, E(Everyone) which is suitable for everyone, T(Teens) which is suitable for teens and might contain mild violence, M(Mature) which is suitable for people above the age of 17 because they contain gore, violence and sexual themes and then there is A(Adults only) which contain extreme and explicit contents, most of this type of games are usually banned in countries. Moving on, video games have been scientifically proved to have not been a direct cause of a specific act of crime or violence. To wrap up this point, most of the video games that have been alleged criticized have made over a billion dollars in sales e.g. GTA and Call of Duty, hence this just proves that most of this prosecutors are just after the cheddar(money).
- STRONGER PLOTS
The undeniable fact about most video games especially of this generation is their complex story lines, that have even surpassed a lot of Hollywood productions. For example, the survival horror zombie game, The Last of Us has been credited for its in-dept story and narration and has been hailed has even surpassing the apocalyptic zombie flick, World War Z. Likewise with the Walking Dead, whose video game has a stronger narrative than its TV show counterpart. Other games like L.A. Noire( a police procedural noire) and Spec Ops: The Line have interchanging plot twists and engaging story lines. Batman Arkham City had such a complex story that I rate it higher than the Dark Knight Rises. To wrap up this point, I would like to leave you with a critically acclaimed game, Heavy Rain which had such a strong narrative that it was awarded a BAFTA and is being pursued for a movie adaptation.
- EDUCATIONAL EDGE
This is another strong fact about video games, they provide a lot of people with unconscious education. I for one can testify that I used the knowledge from Assassin’s Creed Revelations to compile a presentation on the Ottoman Empire for my history class. A lot of video games are based on historical facts, that can help enlighten an individual while they are playing. The story of The Last of Us which features a known fungus called Cordyceps in its story, was actually adapted from the true life fungus. The more recent Assassin’s Creed 3 was loosely based on the American Civil War and it had a database of historic trivia that the player could access. To wrap up this point, there have been a couple of other game that have been inspired by true events and then used as a plot device e.g. Call of Duty, Rage( which is based on a foretold asteroid set to hit earth in 2029), Uncharted and so on.
- TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH
This is one of the major advantages of video games, particularly the consoles, in this recent generation, the current generation consoles like the Wii and Xbox 360 had motion control which made video-games more fun to play, but aside from the entertainment factor, the Xbox Kinect as been said to be used by scientists to create new peripherals that can be used by physically disabled individuals. The more recent PS4 has been said to possess a processing power that surpasses that of the computers used by NASA. There are other various innovations that the presence of video-game consoles have brought. To wrap up this point, surgeons who play first person shooters have been proven to perform over 30% better than surgeons who don’t
- EMPHATIC CONNECTION
Lastly, I would like to talk about the emotional aspect of playing video-games. It has been recorded that video-games that feature the protagonist in a quest to protect a younger and more vulnerable character positively affect the emotion of the player e.g. The Walking Dead, Bioshock, and The Last of Us e.t.c. Other games like role playing games, that feature the protagonist making choices that affect the outcome of the game have been proven to improve multitasking skills and decision making in the players, examples of games are Mass Effect, Infamous, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and more. In conclusion, I am simply saying that although video-games have their pros and cons much like any other thing on this planet, we shouldn’t be swift to judge the negatives and overlook the positives. I will leave you with the fact that video-games have never started pub fights or street brawls like sports or other forms of entertainment do at times. Which video-games have influenced you. Please feel free to leave a comment below. Till next time. Szia.
