Hello my fellow readers, today starts off yet another week filled with different outcomes to our lives, I would like to kick start your week for you by dropping off some movie news to entertain and quell any impending yells that the boss may and might lay on you so far. Lets get it on.
It was recently announced that Jerry Bruckheimer and Walt Disney pictures would not be renewing their contract next year when it expires, the reason according to Jerry being that he would like to direct more mature and gritty movies. This is a bit of sad news considering the amount of money that both parties have made during their collaboration. Although, in my opinion, it seems that the poor performance of The Lone Ranger seemed to have been a catalyst in this decision cause it seems to good to be a coincidence, but it is just my speculation. What do you think about this split?
Jason Reitman, a well renowned movie director who has put out magnificent screen magic like Juno, Up in the Air, Thank You for Smoking and Young Adult is set to direct another movie titled Labor Day, it tells the tale of a young boy living with his single and reclusive mom(Kate Winslet) who comes across a strange but intimidating man( Josh Brolin) who is bent on becoming part of their family but turns out to be an escaped convict. I have been a fan of Jason Reitman ever since his first couple of movies, and with an interesting premise like this, I could say that I am already intrigued by this movie. What are your thoughts?
With the release of the trailer of the new Robocop movie set to be released next year, it has been announced that the older versions are going to be remastered in HD for those gritty and blood thirsty fan boys out there( yes i confess me included) and re-released in IMAX theaters worldwide. With the news of the remake in tow, many fans are displeased with the idea of the movie being PG-13, as the originals were R rated, much like what happened with Total Recall. Are you a fan of the originals? What are your thoughts on the remake? This is all for now, please let me know what you think in the comments. Till next time. Szia.
Hello once again my fellow viewers, unfortunately I couldn’t upload anything yesterday as I was unavailable, so today’s tidings should cover up for it. I am going to put up a couple of movie news that i have come across in the past week, some of them could be old and some could new, but regardless I would like to post these subject matters that particularly intrigued me. Lets get it on.
Recently it was announced that J.K. Rowling, the creative mind behind everyone’s favorite thunder scarred wizard, Harry Potter, has decided to continue the franchise in the same world but it would be adapted from her follow up book which was titled Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them. It appears that it is gonna be a spin off, which would still occur in the Harry Potter universe but will not feature the characters from the previous books. When I heard this story, the first thing that came to mind was that, Rowling was probably missing her truck load of cash that shot her to be a billionaire, but it may not be the case. It has also been reported that she would be the lead writer on the new project. Do you think it is necessary to continue the Potter universe or do you think that Rowling should give it a rest? Are you excited to see what she is going to bring out?
This is actually a movie that I am kinda looking forward to, it stars Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, Will plays a recently convicted business man who is trying to prepare for his time in prison, he asks for the aid of his chauffeur who is played by Kevin Hart, who must prepare him under a month before his incarceration. The concept and casting of this movie has already bought me, I just hope that it delivers has much as it seems. Are you excited for this movie? are you a fan of Will Ferrell or Kevin Hart? Please let me know in the comment section.
In a recent chat with the director of the upcoming Thor: The Dark World, Alan Taylor disclosed that during the filming of some difficult scenes, Joss Whedon, the recently acclaimed comic book messiah, had to be consulted in order to help out with some scenes. He said that Joss was flown over to the set of the movie to assist in editing a scene, and right after he was done, he flew back to his previous abode. This news hit me with shock and awe because it tells me two things, namely Alan Taylor is truly committed to the movie to know when a problem is a bit out of his hand, and secondly Joss Whedon is genuinely concerned about the whole Marvel Cinematic universe, that he would fly a couple of miles to aid in fixing a movie that he is not directly involved in. It also tells me that he has big plans for the upcoming The Avengers sequel, that he doesn’t want any tie in movies to mess up leading to the 2015 release of The Avengers 2. What do you think about this news? Does this convince you that Thor: The Dark World could be any good? This is all for the weekend, please do not forget to comment and subscribe. Till next time. Szia.
Hello once again my ever supportive readers, this is yet another unfortunate result of my bad titles, I would like to use this segment to upload sudden and shocking news, since this is my first post on this topic I unfortunately only have one major news today( because I am writing this from my economics class).
Apparently last week, the Selena Gomez’s previous heartthrob, namely Justin Burner released a picture of him holding a script of the upcoming Man of Steel sequel with his name labeled on it. This instantly caused a media uproar as various people began to speculate that he could be playing the thights wearing Boy Wonder, Robin who is Batman’s sidekick in the comics( seriously didn’t you know that already). Well it turns out that it was a prank that the Canadian pop star played on us all as it was a screenshot of an upcoming funny or die sketch. So you DC fanboys can calm down now, but I have to hand it to Justin for such an elaborate prank. This is all I have for today. Stay tuned for more watchouts. Till next time. Szia.
Hello once again my fellow viewers, I have decided to add a segment to my blog-sphere in the hopes of making it more interesting and dynamic. This segment aptly titled Monday Moorings( because i suck at puns) will feature movie news around the globe. It would consist of three media related topics that should keep you informed for the week and you can feel free to add your comments. Without any further delay, lets begin. I apologize for the late post.
I believe its no longer news by now that Ben Affleck, is going to play the next Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Following the news there were several back-lashing comments which were dished out concerning the issue. It never really surprised me, because the same thing happened with Heath Ledger being cast as The Joker, who in turn served us with one of the most convincing and accurate depiction of the Clown Prince of Crime. Several people have said that they do not want Affleck due to their experience with the Daredevil movie(which in my opinion is not as bad as people make it seem). I for one am okay with this choice that Warner Bros made, although my first pick for a new Batman would have been Karl Urban. Ben Affleck also commented on some of the comments that he read concerning his role, and he seemed to take it professional. So do you think Ben Affleck can take on the cowl of the Caped Crusader? Let me know in the comment section.
POTTS OF NO GOLD
With the continuous progress on the Avengers sequel The Age of Ultron, news has come in that Pepper Potts, who is played by the stunning Gwyneth Paltrow may not be appearing in the movie. Now this doesn’t call for alarm considering that she is a secondary character, but with her absence one can only wonder who would be the Dr Jerkyl to Tony Stark’s Mr Hyde. Do you think Pepper Potts should be added or do you think that she is too infinitesimal to the story?
FAST AND FOREVER
With the increasing success of the endless Fast and Furious installments, it seems there are going to be added sequels after the still filming Fast Seven that is currently taking place, and it seems that characters from the mixed received Tokyo Drift are going to make major appearances. It was previously reported that Fast Seven, which is slated for release next year and would featured Jason Statham has the antagonist, was going to be the final chapter to the vehicular franchise, but it seems that they plan on going forward, with James Wan(director of Saw and Insidious) to helm the directorial chair of part seven. One can only speculate that Universal Studio plans on benefiting from this cash cow of a franchise. Do you think they should carry on? For how long do you they should carry on the movie? Please feel free to comment below and subscribe for more movie related news. Till next time. Szia.
Hello once again my fellow readers, so i was fortunate to get my hands on the latest installment to Rockstar’s action adventure free roam sandbox epic, namely Grand Theft Auto V, and i must say it is a masterpiece in its own. i have been playing it for over 8 hours now and i frequently find it hard to quit the game without suffering from withdrawal syndrome. It is a fun, addictive and immaculate piece of genuine hard work that is evident by the detailed game play. Which is why the game could make 800 million dollars on its first 24 hours of release. I am going to lay some features that i enjoyed so far and some minor gripes that ticked me off at times.
The game starts right off with a nine year flashback that introduces us to the first two characters that are gonna be available for playing. When the game starts fully you are given the ability to control three characters, namely : Micheal, a retired professional bank robber who is living a quite life in the new city of Los Santos. Franklin, a gang banger who is tired of his current life and is trying to go legit, and last but not the least, Trevor, a rage infused redneck with a very pathological anger issue. Each characters have their own missions to carry out but might meet each other occasionally for some particular missions. Each character has his own hobbies that he enjoys, with Franklin preferring golf, and Trevor participating in hunting and Micheal enjoying yoga. Each character can also buy unique landmarks that suites their lifestyle.
Each character has his own unique set of abilities, Franklin, for example can go into slow motion while driving around treacherous corners and he also has the ability to command his rottweiler named Chop to attack people. Micheal can go into slow motion while on foot when he is being engaged by tons of enemies Max Payne-style and render them mortis by lining up head shots. And finally, Trevor can go into rampage mode where he takes in less damage and deals double damage. Each abilities come in handy at any time. With the awesome ability to switch between players within and outside missions, this adds a nice slice of variety. Players would be switching from a TV watching Micheal to a passed out and hungover Trevor who is laying on a train track. This is another factor that makes the game highly interactive.
GTA V takes place in a new city called Los Santos(or a revised version of San Andreas) and I must say this is one of the largest maps that I have seen till date, with each of the players living in conveniently placed locales, from the shady ghettos of San Andreas to the opulent lifestyle of Vinewood to the sparsely populated redneck-ridden population of Sandy Shores. This provides the player with a huge landscape that immerses the player into a trip around the dynamic setting of Los Santos. Each location has its on fair share of indigents that add flavor to the environment, one would notice clandestine drug deals going on in the alleys of San Andreas, and one can also notice the lavish lifestyle of celebs over at Vinewood, not to also forget the boisterity of the rednecks at Sandy Shores. Taking to the mountains is also rewarding, as players encounter wild fauna of different sorts, from coyotes to warthogs to mountain lions. Taking to the skies also provides a very gorgeous scenery of the vast world of Los Santos.
This is the most crucial part of any game, as this often determines whether a game is worth its $60 price tag or better at half price or for free on PlayStation Plus. The most interesting part of the game to me so far are the heists, players can choose which ever method they prefer in handling a job, one can go in loud and dumb, or go in silent and swift, its all up to the player. Also players would have to pick crew members for the job, depending on the pay cut that each individual crew members would take, although the higher the cut, the lesser the risk, so players have to choose wisely. Another interesting aspect is the dynamic optional missions that pop up from here and there, from helping an old lady take down a mugger and returning her purse, to getting mugged at a clothing store and chasing after the culprits. A noticeable improvement is the driving mechanics which have been greatly improved compared to the last installment, vehicles are more durable now and don’t flatten like unleavened bread after every little touch. There are a vast array of vehicles to maneuver from crop-dusters to submarines to cranes and so on. There are tons of activities to partake in from skydiving to hunting to yoga to triathlons, the races are also more diverse as there are the usual car races, jet-ski races, off-road races and so on. Evading the cops has been revised to a more realistic approach, now players have to escape the line of sight of pursing cops and hideout during the cool-down period until the heat is off, players can also change vehicles to speed up this process.
There were three major gripes or issues that i had with the game so far, first, the health bar was a bit too realistic as players can be taking down by two bullets to the chest, although the players health regenerates to 50% whenever it falls short, these caused a lot of retries on particular stages. Another gripe that i had was the wanted levels, like i said previously players have to escape the line of sight or enter other vehicles to trigger a cool down, but unfortunately the cool down period took to long even for a mere one star. Lastly, the flight mechanics did not initially agree to well with me as i found it hard to land air crafts conveniently. These are minor issues that can be overlooked when fully immersed in this outstanding game. I know no game is perfect but GTA V does its fair share of relating with players in order to give them a highly splendid experience, I strongly encourage people out there to get this game. This is my first hands on impression of GTA V, and i hope to see more memorable games and potential DLCs from Rockstar. What are your thoughts on GTA V? Are you gonna get this game? Although bear in mind that this game has explicit nude scenes, coarse language, and graphic violence i.e. a torture scene, and it will surely go under fire form various media boards, nevertheless this is the most fun you can receive from a couch. Feel free to comment and share. Till next time. Szia.
Hello my fellow readers once again, I deeply apologize for my unannounced break, but i am back and i promise to be more consistent with my blogging escapades. During this summer i got the chance to watch a ton of exciting movies and play a couple of interesting games, although it is a little too late for summer movie reviews, you can consult my twitter page @thracian_soul for access to my brief and concise movie reviews. Talking about movies, today’s topic is intriguing because it was something that kept on playing in my head continuously after watching World War Z, while I would say it was a good enough movie to me ridden with cliches and a direct story, I couldn’t shake off the daring resemblance to a similar video game that also came out during the summer i.e. The Last of Us, a highly interactive survival horror game set in a post-apocalyptic zombie infested world, where our protagonist, namely Joel, a gruff middle aged man who really has nothing to lose, escorts a lovable but foul-mouthed teenager named Ellie as they try to get from one destination to another. Now I am going to analyze the basic similarities that stood out to me while watching the Brad Pitt zombie movie, please feel free to add your own opinions. Before you go on, this post is heavily laden with spoilers you have been warned.
Gerry Lane, our main protagonist from WWZ who is played by the prolific Brad Pitt, is a recently retired UN worker who is spiraled back into his former work due to a zombie outbreak, Gerry’s own motivation is the desire to see his family again. On the other hand, Joel is a bereaved worn out middle aged man who has survived the fungus outbreak for over 20 years , he is well experienced and initially has nothing to lose right until Ellie walks into his life. This is where Joel and Gerry are similar, gruff middle age men with a reluctant attitude but firm motivation.
While Gerry is initially reluctant to go on the hobbit-esque journey to find a cure, he is however given an ultimatum, which states that him and his family would be kicked off the survivor ship, this was his primary and only motivation as he sauntered across continents in search of the cure. Joel, on the other hand, didn’t really care about anything other than surviving to see the next day, since he had lost his….*ahem* *spoiler alert*…daughter. Then he comes across a particular silver lining to his life in shape of a little girl named Ellie, at first they obviously do not get along, probably because Ellie posed as a sharp and bitter reminder of his lost daughter. Eventually, they bonded and she became his primary motivation to carry on with his mission, she became like a family member to him. This is where Gerry and Joel also share certain similarities.
Now this was the most similar trait of both media products. IN WWZ, the primary antagonists are the zombies(which by the way could probably outrun you in a heartbeat), they are quick, savage and aggressive. They apparently do not devour their victims, rather they aim to bite them in order to pass on the virus, which seemed to me as though the virus was behaving as a HIVE mind. But the vague similarity of the zombies to the Infected in TLoU is their behavioral pattern. The zombies clicked in similar fashion to the fungus headed Clickers from TLoU, posing in a particular position in order to listen to their prey. It seemed to me that the producers of WWZ must have at least had a little innovation from TLoU. Nevertheless, WWZ and TLoU were both good entertainment sources, but i prefer the latter. This is my opinion on the similarities that i noticed in these two media products, what are your own observations, feel free to comment. Before I sign off I would like to know what your favorite zombie movie is. This is the end of this post but I would like to say that I just got the new Rockstar action sandbox game namely Grand Theft Auto V and i have played it for over 6 hours and i would be uploading my first hands-on impression about it next. Till next time. Szia.
