Regretted Movie Roles part 2

Molly Ringward—Pretty Woman

Molly Ringwald at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood. March 7, 2010 Los Angeles, CA

“Damn I almost beat Julia Roberts to the role just some extra smiles would have worked”

Now this is one regret that could haunt this actress for a long time, the Breakfast Club actress could have easily skyrocketed her career to the top but unfortunately turned it down opening a way for the Mona Lisa smiling Julia Roberts. Apparently, turning down this role didn’t help her career at all. I guess you can say that she was pretty unlucky

Kevin Costner—The Shawshank Redemption

Kevin Costner at Annette Bening Honored at Santa Barbara Film Festival, Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbara, CA. 01-28-11

“Well it was either jail or the Atlantic Ocean, so I went for the ocean”

He may have been a popular media figure in the 80’s but even Kevin Costner has suffered a devastating movie regret when he decided to star in the enormous hydroflop ‘Waterworld’ instead of the role of Andy Dufresne in the prison epic ‘The Shawshank Redemption’

Emily Blunt—Iron Man 2

LOS ANGELES - JAN 23: Emily Blunt at the premiere of 'Gnomeo & Juliet' on January 23, 2011 in Los Angeles, California

“Me, a russian spy?! My name must be Evelyn Romanoff Salt”

The Looper telekinetic may have been in quite a number of successful movies but even Emily Blunt has missed a large role that could have landed her a role in a box office dominator, Iron Man 2. She was meant to star as the russian spy named Black Widow but decided to opt for the box office bomb, Guliiver’s Travels.

Sean Connery—The Lord of the Ring and The Matrix

SIR SEAN CONNERY at the 34th AFI Life Achievement Awards Gala in Hollywood where he was honored. June 8, 2006 Los Angeles, CA

“The name would have been Gandalf, Morpheus Gandalf”

Our popular scottish spy was apparently set to star in two blockbuster franchises that could have added kudos to his decades of cinema glory namely The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix.

Tom Selleck—Indiana Jones

Tom Selleck at the CBS, The CW, Showtime Summer Press Tour Party, Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, CA. 07-28-10

“The whip crackling gave me a back stroke”

Another would-have-been bites the bullet or should i say the whip, as Magnum P.I. star was set to cast as the lead character Indiana Jones in the eponymous film franchise. This is my list of the top ten movie regrets but I know that this is not all, please feel free to add your own opinions and celebs who I might have missed. Till next time. Szia.

Regretted Movie Roles part 1

Ever since our conception to our current state, we all have watched various movies that have influenced us and left memorable scenes in our minds either because of the iconic characters or the flawless acts that they produced. However, it seems that these iconic characters could have been portrayed by other amazing actors. Here is a post on 10 different actors who turned down iconic roles. I would leave you all to decide if the proposed actors could have done a better job.

Will Smith—The Matrix

Will Smith at the Red Cross Red Tie Affair Fundraiser Gala, Fairmount Miramar Hotel, Santa Monica, CA. 04-17-10

“There ain’t no flying blade saucers in the Matrix, so I opted for the wild wild west”

Yes even our successful phresh prince from Philly has turned down a historical trilogy, The Matrix which featured Keanu Reeves as the ultimate hacker Neo was originally a role that was offered to Will Smith, although he decided to turn it down for the notoriously wild flop, Wild, Wild, West. Although Will admits not feeling any regrets as the concept of the Matrix was way too enigmatic for him.

Matt Damon—Avatar and The Dark Knight

Matt Damon during the 66th Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2009 in Venice, Italy.

“Huff! Blue aliens and a half baked face villain, nothing a good old fashioned sniper and a Threadstone

conspiracy can’t handle”

Even Academy Award winners are no strangers to cinematic regrets, as our beloved Good Will Hunting crooner turned down two legendary roles, Avatar and The Dark Knight Rises due to scheduling conflicts with The Bourne Ultimatum and Invictus respectively. These could be regretted roles to Matt, but we all know that he is still a screen favorite and successful actor.

Jack Nicholson—The Godfather

Jack Nicholson smiles while attending the German premiere of the film "The Bucket List" January 21, 2008 in Berlin.

“I should probably invite Al Pacino to the Overlook Hotel”

Even our beloved psycho from Overlook Hotel had once been offered a legendary role which was the lead role in The Godfather as Michael Corleone. But he rescinded the offer insisting that it would be a better role for an Italian to play, a fact which undoubtedly became true. Nevertheless, Jack Nicholson has also had a successful filmography, despite this role he missed.

Johnny Depp—Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Johnny Depp at the premiere of WB Pictures' 'Dark Shadows' at Grauman's Chinese Theater on May 7, 2012 in Los Angeles, California

“Hmm school, isn’t that the legal prison parents send their kids to”

Wow it seems the lost of legendary roles also affects intelligently clumsy pirates, or probably Johnny couldn’t just afford to take a day off from school. The cult classic teen movie was originally set to cast Depp but it eventually went to Matthew Broderick, nevertheless this one role that our rum loving buccaneer missed didn’t seem to affect his whole career as he has wowed fans with various exemplary movies.

Leonardo DiCaprio—Boogie Nights

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio attends 'Shutter Island' Premiere during day three of the 60th Berlin Film Festival at the Berlinale Palast on February 13, 2010 in Berlin, Germany

“I’d love me some nice boogie night bumps right now”

Apparently even our beloved master of enigmatic plots wasn’t always so lucky as he turned down the role to play as Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights before Mark Wahlberg landed the role. DiCaprio even claims that he regretted refusing the role as he was a huge fan of the directors work. Although like most of the previous actors on the list, Leonardo has still managed to pull off a really amazing streak of screen titles that make this miss look like a mole hill. That is all for now, the first 5 iconic movie roles that were turned down by A-list actors. Till next time and please do not forget to like and comment below. Szia.

Elba, Idris Elba

Just watched Skyfall, and I must say it was an improvement compared to the past Daniel Craig performances and also with a better plot. Now we have gotten news that Idris Elba might be playing the next iconic martini drinking, woman loving super spy. The Luther crooner has confirmed that he is interested in playing James Bond. Although Daniel Craig has been assigned for two more James Bond films. We can say that we would soon be seeing Elba in a slim tuxedo five to six years from now. In a recent upcoming film that would feature Naomi Harris, the Bond girl from Skyfall and Idris Elba, she said that Elba would be a perfect fit. Due to his recent performances in the critically acclaimed Luther, Elba has showed potential possibilities as a fit character for the 007 agent. Elba is also to feature in the Guillermo Del Toro action monster epic, Pacific Rim, and with a third season of Luther around the corner, I can say that the future is looking bright for him. In conclusion,Elba has maintained that he shouldn’t be viewed as the first black Bond, but rather as the seventh Bond actor. With this said, I can say that all we have to do is look forward to his performance. “Watch your back Craig, there ain’t gonna be any solace for you when I take over, you might feel

like a royal now but I am gonna bring you down even if the sky falls as well”
